Lorde
Biography
Lorde, also known as Ella Marija Lani Yelich-O'Connor, is art pop singer from New Zealand. She is one of most influential musicians of her country. Her birthday is 7 of November, 1996. She started working together with Louis McDonald, her schoolmate form Belmont School. As teens, they did a lot of live radio performances and produced a few covers under name “Ella & Louis”. In 2012, she uploaded her extended play “The Love Club” to SoundCloud service for free. Producers at UMG saw potential in high number of downloads and decided to release it commercially. One single from this EP was especially groundbreaking – “Royals”. It was released separately and occupied Billboard’s Hot 100 for more than two months. Success of this magnitude forced studios to compete for her attention, and duo of Lava Records and Republic Records won the race to produce and release album “Pure Heroine”. Selling nearly two million copies worldwide and receiving Grammy nomination, this album cemented Lorde’s status as rising star. MAC Cosmetics even partnered with her to release themed line of cosmetics, made with visual similarity to visual and emotional tones of album. In her Facebook posts in late 2016, Lorde made it known that she sees this album as last in her teenage era, and she writes upcoming album “Melodrama” with more mature themes in mind.
