Did you think that 50 Cent is the best that you can have in terms of hip-hop? You maybe did not listen to K’naan Warsame. He is based in Toronto but was born in Somalia, in 1978. He had the chance of a better life, outside his war-torn country. After his father lived the country to New York and was later joined with him and his mother.

They were lucky enough to settle down in a new place, in Toronto, where they found out an emerging Somali community. There, he not only started to learn English, but also to understand more about the world of rap which turned into his universal language.

In 1999, he turned into a celebrity after he used the occasion of a performance before the UN’s High Commissioner for Refugees for criticizing the failure of the organization to prevent the slaughtering in Somalia. As a consequence, many big artists and producers asked him to join their own musical and humanitarian efforts: he went on a tour to Senegal with Youssou N'Dour and his debut album ‘The Dusty Foot Philosopher’ (2006) was produced with the help of Nelly Furtado's production team Track and Field helped produce his debut album. He received the Juno Award in 2006, for his debut album.
