Growing up in New Orleans, Ledisi was a very popular presence in the gigs stage of San Francisco Bay Area, from her eight anniversary onwards. Ledisi means ‘to bring forth’ in Yoruba. Her family relocated to Oakland California, where she spent most of the formative years. After a long while, his hardworking devotion has paid off. She had a musical education, formed a band and also played regular roles in various comedy/singing revue representations at Bleach Blanket Babylon. After years of cold answers from the major labels in the area, her label debut 'Lost and Found', in 2007, was supported by Verve. She also had created her own label, LeSun, together with her friend Sundra where she was able to release in 2000 'Soulsinger'. Together with Marcus Shelby she recorded a jazz album. Verve was convinced by her value after listening to her own tribute to Ella Fitzgerald.
